The Trade Union International of Metal and Mining (TUI M&M) expresses its solidarity
with the Argentinian people, especially with the retirees who were brutally repressed by Javier
Milei’s police last Wednesday.
The military offensive against thousands of retirees who were peacefully protesting against
pension cuts demonstrates the authoritarianism of the Argentinian president, exposing the
contradiction between his discourse of freedom and his authoritarian policies. The protests were
supported by social movements and organized fan groups from different Argentinian soccer teams,
highlighting the unity of the people against the harmful neoliberal agenda proposed by Milei since
the beginning of his government.
The police used tear gas, water canons, and rubber bullets against the demonstrators – many
of them over 70 years old – who were demanding pension increases, access to medication, and the
maintenance of the pension moratorium. As an organization dedicated to defending workers, we
strongly condemn any and all repressive actions against workers worldwide.
We will continue marching against the neoliberal agenda that is spreading across the world
and in unwavering defense of the rights of the retirees and workers.
Workers of the world, unite against fascism!
