The World Federation of Trade Unions is coordinating a worldwide strike of dockworkers on October 30 to protest the use of ships to transport weapons to Israel to make war on Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon.. The following countries are involved in this action: Italy, Greece, France, Basque Country (Spain), Morocco, Turkey, Cyprus, Ireland, México, India, and the Port of Oakland, CA. in the USA. Under the banner “DOCKWORKERS DON’T WORK FOR WAR” the strike is expected to close 50 ports world wide. What started as an action in the Mediterranean quickly expanded to include Ireland, México, and India.
Readers are encouraged to send messages of support from their unions to ILWU Local 10 in San Francisco here: Ed Ferris, President, ILWU Local 10 president@sflocal10.com A special thanks to longtime trade unionist Peter Olney for arranging this action in the Port of Oakland. Locals 10 and 34 in San Francisco have endorsed this action called by the WFTU. This is a huge victory as the United States continues to be the largest supplier of arms to Israel.
