The TUI TPFC of the WFTU expresses its full and unwavering support for the international
dockers’ strike on October 30 against war, imperialist blockades, and the militarization of
the economy.
Following a series of strikes refusing the handling and transport of military equipment
intended for the genocide in Palestine, dockers’ unions – most of wich are affiliated with
the TUI TPFC of the WFTU – organized a simultaneous strike on February 6 in over 20
ports across the Mediterranean, under the slogan ‘Dockers don’t work for war!’
The TUI TPFC of the WFTU welcomes the significant expansion of the upcoming
mobilization on October 30, including the participation of dockers’ unions that are not
affiliated with our UIS: the mobilization will take place in nearly 100 ports across 4
continents, making it truly an international movement!
This aligns with the massive mobilizations of workers and youth in France, Italy, Portugal,
Belgium, and Albania against the high cost of living, and for wages, housing, health, and
education. The fight against the militarization of the economy is directly linked to demands
for our wages, working conditions, and collective agreements, as well as for education and
health.
The dockworkers’ unions show us the way: they demonstrate that, beyond words and
slogans, organized and united workers across borders can act together and
simultaneously paralyze the economy. In this way, they can defend their working
conditions and take concrete action against wars and genocides, especially the genocide
of the Palestinian people; and imperialist blockades, including the criminal and illegal
blockade of Cuba, which kills as many people as bombs.
The TUI TPFC of WFTU calls on affiliated dockworkers’ unions to sign the Istanbul
Declaration, to join the October 30 mobilization through strikes and actions in the ports,
to expand the movement “Dockworkers do not work for war!”
The TUI TPFC of WFTU calls on all its affiliates in transport, fishing, and communications
to show real solidarity with dockworkers through mobilizations on October 30 and to plan
similar initiatives in their own sectors in the coming period.
Workers in transport, ports, fishery, and communications refuse to work for war.
They refuse to serve the imperialist machine of death and want to work for life and
friendship among peoples. While the imperialists build walls, we build bridges between
peoples through our struggles and international solidarity!
Honor to the dockworkers who fight against the race to war and
imperialist blockades, against capitalist exploitation, and for peace and
cooperation among the peoples of the world:
Long live the struggle and international solidarity!
