PEO Cyprus expresses its deepest condolences for the loss of dozens of lives as a result of storms and floods that have devastated parts of Spain, namely Valencia as well as Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.
The occurrence of increasingly severe or extreme meteorological events, such as these floods, is a serious problem to which public authorities do not provide an appropriate policy response.
The fact that many of those who died were workers demonstrates the lack of prevention and occupational safety and health measures in many companies.
The insufficient protection against natural disasters is mostly the consequence of reckless plundering and exploitation of environment with the main objective of multiplying the profit.
We express our solidarity with the workers and populations of the affected areas at these difficult times.
