The anti-war protest was organised in reaction to the dangerous escalation of war in the region of the Middle East.
In the Declaration issued by the Cyprus Peace Council it is mentioned:
“The attacks committed by the murderous State of Israel in the region are increasingly pushing the region of the Middle East towards a generalised war with unforeseeable consequences for humanity. The Israeli aggression with its ongoing operation of genocide against the Palestinian people, combined with the recent murderous attacks in Lebanon, are being carried out with the full support of the US-UK-EU.
The large military exercises that are taking place these days both on the ground and in the air around the Akrotiri bases, as well as the large concentration of US military forces in our country for the preparation of the generalization of the war, increases the feeling of concern that Cyprus may become a target for attacks!
We join our voice with the global anti-war movement to express the demand to end the wars in our region in favour of peace, security and stability in the Middle East. We express our solidarity with the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon. We condemn the genocide of the Palestinians and Israel’s murderous attacks on Lebanon. We condemn the use and involvement of Cyprus in the murderous operations against the peoples of the region. We condemn the dangerous military cooperation and joint Cyprus-Israel exercises. We demand that the Government of the Republic of Cyprus express clear messages against the military activities of the British bases”.
