The European Regional Office of the World Federation of Trade Unions stands in unwavering solidarity with the courageous workers of the Divaca-Koper Railway Construction Project in Slovenia.
We express our utmost support for the more than 500 workers who were taken to Slovenia from Turkey and who have taken a stand for their fundamental rights and dignity in the face of unjust working conditions and inadequate wages. The demands put forth by these workers, including fair wages, improved working conditions, and respect for their rights, are not only just but also essential for ensuring their well-being and livelihoods.
It is deeply concerning to learn that their rightful demands have been met with rejection by the employer, and their voices marginalized by a yellow union that deliberately fails to adequately represent their interests. The workers’ decision to initiate a strike on 20th March is a testament to their determination to secure a better future for themselves and their families.
As advocates for workers’ rights and social justice, we condemn any attempt to suppress or undermine the legitimate demands of Divaca-Koper workers. We call upon the employer to engage in a solution together with the workers and their representatives to address their grievances in a fair and timely manner.
Furthermore, we urge the Slovenian authorities to uphold the rights of workers to organize and collectively bargain, without fear of reprisal or intimidation.
It is imperative that the rights and dignity of all workers involved in the Divaca-Koper Railway Construction Project are respected and protected.
