PEO expresses its solidarity and full support to the French refinery workers who are on strike, demanding a 10% wage increase, to deal with the huge wave of inflation which has lowered dramatically the living standards of all workers around Europe, as well as taxation of companies’ profits.
We condemn all attempts to intimidate the workers, including the announcement issued by the Government of France for requisition of the strikers. This action is a direct violation of the trade union rights, vested in ILO conventions.
The workers, within the lines of their trade union FNIC CGT, a WFTU member-organisation, are resisting such threats and intimidation through their militant stance.
We support the strike and the fair struggle of the French workers for the self-evident right of every worker to work under the protection of collective agreements, and to live with dignity in today’s conditions that are getting worse on a daily basis, due to sweeping price increases and inflation.
Today, with the deepening of the crisis and the intensification of social inequalities, the class-oriented struggles of workers in France and indeed throughout Europe, send optimistic messages and strengthen the struggle for carving out a new path to the future.
We assure the French workers that we stand by them, in solidarity with their struggles and strike actions.
