USB Education supports the struggles of the Turkish workers at the Italian High School in Istanbul and their trade union, Tez-Koop-İş, who have been on an indefinite strike since 2 February to demand the application of Italian and Turkish legislation regarding employment contracts and to put an end to pay disparities and unequal workloads among teachers at the same school who perform the same duties.
The inaction and sluggishness of the Italian institutions, which are effectively preventing the conclusion of agreements more favourable to Turkish workers, are unacceptable and have the sole aim of nullifying the agreements reached and reinstating the same conditions of exploitation as before.
We will urge the relevant Ministry and the Italian High School to put an end to this obstructionism at the expense of Turkish workers, by supporting the just trade union demands of Tez-Koop-İş, which aim to reduce the disparities between workers within the same educational institution.
