Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) is strengthening the international, class-oriented trade union front in the WFTU.
USB expresses its full solidarity with the national general strike on 12 February in India, promoted by class-oriented trade unions against the policies of the Modi government that severely affect workers, wages, contractual protections and the right to organise.
The strike involves hundreds of millions of workers from various productive sectors, together with farmers, informal workers, and popular sectors, mobilized against labor and agricultural reforms that increase precariousness, exploitation, and social inequalities, favoring privatization and the concentration of wealth.
The Indian government’s policies drastically reduce collective protections, limit bargaining, weaken job security, and repress trade union conflict, with effects that are fully in line with a global framework of attacks on labor rights imposed by neoliberal capitalism.
As USB, we recognize the strike on February 12 as a struggle that concerns the entire international working class. The same dynamics of precariousness, wage compression, and dismantling of public services are also present in Europe and Italy, and require a coordinated and internationalist trade union response.
For this reason, we reiterate the need to strengthen the international class-oriented trade union front within the World Federation of Trade Unions, enhancing its role in coordinating independent and militant trade unions, in order to support disputes, defend labor rights, and combat neoliberal policies at the global level.
International solidarity among workers is a concrete tool for collective struggle and defense.
USB will continue to support, including through the WFTU, the mobilizations and disputes of class-oriented unions in India and every other country.
On February 12, we stand with the Indian workers on strike.
