Organizations that launched the call for the port action day on February 6, 2026
Trade unions from Italy, the Basque Country, Greece, Morocco, and Turkey have issued a call for an international day of joint struggle in the ports on February 6.
“Peace is over” – that’s what we hear from most governments. As dockworkers’ unions, we signed the declaration “Dockworkers don’t work for war” in Genoa on September 26 and reaffirm the relevance of the commitments contained therein. These include the demand to end the genocide of the Palestinians by Israel, which is openly supported by its allies, the US, NATO, and the EU; to open stable corridors for humanitarian aid; to reject the EU’s rearmament plan; and to make European and Mediterranean ports ports of peace again.” It goes on to say: These armament plans are welcomed by shipowners and port operators, as they facilitate increased automation, job cuts, and the erosion of union rights. The war economy puts pressure on wages and rights and on the health and safety of port workers, including reduced working hours. It goes on to say:
“The unions reject any involvement of dockworkers in the transport of weapons and war material and strongly protest against the consequences of the war economy. They are therefore calling for an international day of action on February 6, 2026.”
The call is directed against the EU’s and European governments’ plans to militarize ports and strategic infrastructure. But also against the use of the armament plans as a pretext for further privatization and automation of ports. It takes a clear stand against the effects of the war economy on wages, rights, and health and safety at work.
ICOR Europe supports this call. This is an excellent opportunity for the coordination and cooperation of class struggles in Europe and their revolutionization. We ask all our member organizations to support or initiate, according to their possibilities, struggle and protest actions, rallies, strikes, and other forms of action on February 6 in the ports and port cities. Inform other sections of the industrial workforce, the militant women’s and youth movements. Report on it on the ICOR homepage!m
Warm regards and solidarity,
ECC Europe
