The Italian government’s one-sided action: Palestinians are the terrorists.

There has been a new attack on Palestinian organisations in Italy, with nine people arrested on the usual charge of supporting Hamas. This time, the charges are based on funds that these associations allegedly sent, either directly or indirectly, to the
Palestinian militant organisation. While we are unable to comment on the merits of the judicial investigation, the fact remains that the Italian government is completely subservient to the military operations of Netanyahu’s genocidal government. While collaboration with Israel is becoming increasingly explicit in economic and military terms, with a dense network of trade exchanges and arms sales, the Italian police are actively targeting the Palestinian diaspora, who are invariably accused of terrorism.

Despite parliamentary questions, the Minister of the Interior, Piantedosi, has been careful not to investigate Italian citizens with dual Israeli passports who allegedly participated in the genocide of Palestinians as soldiers. Nor has he intervened regarding the Italian holidays of Israeli soldiers, which have been reported in the media on several occasions and have included Italian police protection.
It is clear that the genocide of the Palestinians is being downplayed as Israel’s right to defend itself, while the Palestinian people’s resistance is unquestionably defined as terrorism.

Behind these police operations lies the intention to silence the pro-Palestine solidarity movement, which has amply demonstrated in recent months that it has the support of much of the country. While the media spotlight on the ongoing genocide has faded, news of the arrests is being amplified, suggesting that the millions of Italians who took to the streets were manipulated by terrorism.

However, the real terrorism is that perpetrated by Israel and its allies, who are complicit in the massacre of the Palestinian population and are now engaged in an impressive general rearmament campaign.

Today’s arrests suggest complicity with Netanyahu’s government. When will the top brass at Leonardo be arrested for selling weapons to Israel?
