UPDATE: Port of Genoa: a large popular and workers’ mobilization against the death ships and genocide in Palestine
This morning the container ship Contship ERA of the Israeli company ZIM docked at the Port of Genoa. But there was more than just the docks waiting for her: there was a workers’ and popular demonstration at the Ethiopia Bridge Gate. A mobilization that spoke volumes.
French dockworkers had already blocked in Marseille 14 tons of machine gun components destined for the Israeli army. In Genoa we wanted to say that our port too will not be complicit in the genocide in Palestine.
Thanks to the Marseille dockers, the ship arrived empty. But we know that every ZIM ship is a link in the chain of war.
And we know that Italian logistics-with ports, stopovers and military depots-are increasingly involved in the traffic of death.
Then, in Genoa, a determined procession moved inside the port to reiterate the blockade on arms trafficking and militant solidarity with the Palestinian people.
This is the second port procession in a few months, after the one last November: a strong, concrete signal coming from the strategic places of production and logistics.
This day proves one simple thing: if dockworkers coordinate, if workers raise their heads, if solidarity organizes, then it is possible to stop the flow of weapons.
It is possible to say NO to war, NO to rearmament, NO to the economy of death.
It is time to raise the level of confrontation.
On June 20 let’s build together the general strike against war, carvita, exploitation.
On June 21 we will be in Rome, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele at 2 p.m., for a big national demonstration.
Stopping the war is our task.
Let us stop the weapons, let us build peace through struggle.
USB – Unione Sindacale di Base

FIRST STATEMENT:
USB Ports USB Unione Sindacale Di Base pag. nazionale picks up the report of La CGT colleagues from the Gulf of Fos who have mobilized to prevent the shipment of 14 tons of machine gun spare parts bound for the IDF in Israel.
In fact, today, June 5, these munitions are scheduled to be loaded in the French port and the ZIM ship bound for northern Israel and passing through the Port of Genoa tomorrow, June 6, is scheduled to depart.
The CGT dock workers have refused to load the pallets of ammunition and so, USB Port of Genoa dock workers have also called an action at the Port’s Ethiopia Gate to prevent this ship from docking.
This is not the first time that dock workers and FSM class oriented unions have organized initiatives of struggle and internationalist solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The workers will not be complicit in the genocide in Palestine, they will not be complicit in the rearmament plans. That is why the USB has called a general strike for next June 20 under the slogan “DISARM THEM!” against rearmament and common defense, increased military spending and the devastation produced by decades of wage moderation, now exasperated in the name of war.
LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY! LONG LIVE FSM!

Libertà in Palestina
Solidarietà al popolo palestinese!

The ENEDEP union stands alongside USB’s Italian dockworker colleagues who mobilized immediately after being informed by fellow Cgt dockworkers in the port of Fos, Marseille, that a ship of the Israeli company Zim would dock in Genoa with 19 pallets of ammunition destined for the Israeli IDF. Our colleagues have coordinated and will gather at 3 p.m. on June 6 at the Varco do Ponte Ethiopia in Genoa to prevent the ship from docking.
The ENEDEP union expresses its solidarity with our brothers in Italy and France and stresses to all, once again, that dockers with peoples’ blood do not stain their hands. We are in constant contact and available to our colleagues for any needs. We will not be the link in the chain of blood that unites the governments that support the genocide in Palestine.
