Cyprus/workers of Kindergartens

Τoday, the workers of all Community Kindergartens in Cyprus have gone on a 24-hour warning strike. A delegation of the workers visited the Ministry of Education for a symbolic protest and to deliver a memorandum outlining their positions.Τhe workers and their unions, denounce the Ministry of Education’s ongoing indifference. The main demands and reasons for the strike include the continued downgrading and gradual shrinking of Community Kindergartens, which threatens the viability of the institution; the loss of jobs for qualified kindergarten teachers and school support staff; and the failure to implement the 2018 agreement that provided for the transfer of Community Kindergartens to School Boards. Additionally, there is a need for salary upgrades for Kindergarten Teachers and School Assistants, as well as a revision of the 2012 circular that regulates employment terms and operational procedures, which is now considered outdated.
