Greece General Strike February 28 – CALL FOR SOLIDARITY

We call all unions and organizations to express their support and solidarity with the National General Strike in Greece on February 28

2 years after the Tempe crime -the train crash, which cost the lives of 57 people, majority of them young students, because of privatization of transport and underfunding of safety measures- the people and unions of Greece organize massive actions under the slogan THEIR PROFITS vs OUR LIVES.

The strike in Greece is connected to the struggle of militant unions and workers all over the world as they fight against the policies that sacrifice peoples lives for the profits of the few.

We call on unions and militant organizations all over the world to organize actions of solidarity in front of Greek embassies, transport authorities etc the days before the strike and send solidarity messages

EUROF SOLIDARITY

The regional office of WFTU Europe – EUROF greets and supports the Greek workers who will take part in the struggle on 28th February by joining and participating in the great general strike called by PAME.

The large number of people participating in the strikes of the categories that are taking place in preparation for the general strike already give an idea of the large number of people supporting the reasons for the struggle.

Two years after the Tempe train crash, which cost the lives of 57 people, most of them young students.

Pursue those responsible and discover the real causes that led to the crime.

No cover-up.

Strengthen the fight against the policy of ‘liberalisation’ and privatisation of the EU and governments.

For a modern, safe, regular, cheap and exclusively public rail transport.

Health and safety measures in all workplaces. Collective labour agreements and fixed daily working hours. Wage increases.

A decisive increase in state funding for health, education, welfare, social policy services provided by local authorities, and for protection against natural disasters.

Massive recruitment of permanent staff in all these critical sectors.

Strengthen the fight for the protection of human life. No to military armaments and NATO spending. Greece out of the slaughterhouses of war!

EUROF invites all member organisations and friends of the WFTU to show their solidarity and support for the Greek workers and PAME, and we wish them every success in their general strike.

THEIR PROFITS OR OUR LIVES.

The USB trade union confederation expresses all its solidarity and support to the Greek workers on the occasion of the general strike called by the Trade Union PAME for next February 28th.

The strike is called exactly two years after the Tempe train massacre, in which a passenger train and a freight train collided causing the death of 57 people and the injury of 85 others. A massacre that it is connected to the firing of employers and security measures that come from years of brutal privatization and liberalization of public services which is affecting the whole Europe under the ax of EU policies. Your fight is our fight: what happens in Greece is happening in Italy, where the protection of private profit, austerity and the huge investments in weapons carried on by European countries have now become more important than access to essential public services and the protection of the health and life itself of citizens.

We can only make our own the slogans that our comrades from PAME, also affiliated with the WFTU like USB, have written on their posters:

Your profits against our lives!
