WFTU Presidential Council Resolution of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and the Peoples of the Middle East and the Gulf<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The WFTU Presidential Council, which met at its annual meeting on the 12th and 13th of May 2026, condemns the crimes and the barbarity of the murderous state of Israel and expresses its full solidarity and unwavering support to the heroic Palestinian people and the struggling peoples of the region, in their just struggle for freedom, dignity, and sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, which has escalated dramatically since October 2023 with the open support of the USA, the EU and their allies, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, massive destruction, and unprecedented human suffering. After the devastation of Gaza, Israel continues its brutal aggression in the West Bank, with daily killings, arrests, and the systematic destruction of infrastructure and houses, while promoting plans of displacement and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population. These serious war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, currently examined in international proceedings at the ICJ in the genocide case brought by South Africa, and in ICC proceedings that resulted in arrest warrants against Benjamin Netenyahu and his minister of defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The WFTU reaffirms that the only way to secure peace and stability in the region is the immediate end of the Israeli occupation of all Arab territories, in accordance with UN resolutions, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the guarantee of the right of return of all Palestinian refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, the Presidential Council expresses its solidarity with the peoples of the wider region who are also victims of imperialist aggression and the attacks of the Israeli terrorist state. The affiliates and friends of the WFTU will continue to fight on the frontline to strengthen and reinforce solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people through demonstrations and mobilizations, participating in humanitarian aid mobilizations, and occupying squares and streets with demonstrations, blocking arms shipments to Israel, participating in boycott actions, just like the recent example of the dockworkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The WFTU strongly condemns the imperialist attack against Iran by the USA and Israel, which constitute a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of the country. This attack escalates the fierce confrontation over control of the transport routes for energy and goods in an already burning region, aiming to impose imperialist domination of the USA and serve their geopolitical and economic interests. The WFTU expresses its full solidarity with the people of Iran and underlines that the future of the country is solely an issue of its people, free from foreign intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The WFTU also condemns the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon, which has resulted in the death of hundreds of civilians, widespread destruction, and the undermining of peace and stability in the region. The barbarity and expansionist character of the Israeli state once again become evident. The WFTU expresses its full solidarity with the people of Lebanon in their struggle against the imperialist aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The people of Yemen are also victims of the imperialist attacks and interventions of the Israeli state, the USA, and their allies, suffering the consequences of war, blockade, and humanitarian catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the face of escalating imperialist aggression, the WFTU Presidential Council stresses that solidarity must be intensified. The international class-oriented trade union movement stands firmly with the peoples of Palestine and the region and denounces imperialist wars and interventions. The WFTU reaffirms its firm and principled solidarity and reiterates its demand for the immediate end to all imperialist military interventions and attacks in the Middle East and the Gulf, and for the condemnation by the international community. It calls upon its affiliates and friends to strengthen actions of internationalist solidarity in every workplace and country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
