The International Class-oriented Trade Union Movement, the workers, and the militant unions all over the globe honor with struggles the 139th anniversary of the workers\u2019 struggle in Chicago in 1886.  The World Federation of Trade Unions, the most historic international trade union organisation, representing more than 105 million workers all the length and breadth of the world, sends a cordial and militant message to all the workers and farmers, to the ordinary people of toil and labour, on the occasion of International Workers Day, which constitutes a lasting and bright milestone of struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s May Day coincides with the 80th<\/sup> Anniversary of the WFTU, which was born in the ashes of the most destructive war in the history of humanity in the revolutionary fresh air of the great anti-fascist victory of the peoples with the Soviet Union at the forefront, and completes 8 decades of continuous and uninterrupted struggle for the rights of workers, for justice and social progress, against all forms of discrimination, against wars and imperialist interventions, against may by man exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the messages and demands of the Chicago pioneers of 1886 and the needs that inevitably led to the establishment of the WFTU remain relevant and necessary today. The crisis of capitalism deepens and is generalized. Social inequalities are widening dramatically. Democratic freedoms and trade union rights are under attack all over the world, and the imperialist wars and interventions are on the daily agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank, the bombing in Lebanon and other countries of the wider Middle East region, with the support and encouragement of the USA, the EU, and their allies, continues, revealing in all its grandeur the hypocrisy, cynicism, and inhumane nature of imperialism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, global defence spending rose to 2.46 trillion USD last year, with big budget increases in countries of Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.  Notably, there are examples of countries that are almost doubling their defence spending. At the same time, the USA President Trump calls for a minimum spending of 5% of GDP among NATO members, and the EU Commission Summit decided to finance 800 billion euros for military armament within the ReArm EUROPE project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shift towards a war economy is clearly a priority for the ruling circles of capitalism, as it incites profitability for multinational monopolies and the expansion of the geopolitical power of developed imperialist states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new massive increases in military spending, apart from being a threat to global peace and security, also mean even harsher austerity policies and widening social inequality. The resources that would be destined for families, workers, and ordinary people are cut and diverted to rearmament, and civil and social rights and liberties are placed under guardianship, because in the preparation for war, different opinion are not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WFTU and the class-oriented trade unions strongly condemn the war preparations of the bourgeoisie.  The popular strata have nothing to expect from a new widespread and generalized war but death, poverty, destruction, refuges, and hardship.  We demand spending for the contemporary needs of the workers and the peoples. We demand adequate education and healthcare and not weapons.  We demand dignified working and living conditions and not ammunition and missiles.  We demand spending on culture, sport, and recreation, and not fighter aircraft and naval vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We demand measures against rising inflation and living costs that erode living standards.  We oppose privatization, outsourcing, and flexible forms of work that intensify the precarious employment and exploitation, alongside extended retirement ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Workers and social achievements are under relentless attacks and challenges undermining labor rights, collective agreements, and democratic freedoms. Workplace safety remains neglected, causing daily injuries and fatalities. Despite global challenges, workers do not passively accept the anti-labor offensive on their rights and freedoms. Millions mobilize worldwide for dignified work and the protection of trade union and social rights with the WFTU members to be firmly at the forefront of these struggles. The response of bourgeois governments to the just popular demands is the sharpening of state repression and authoritarianism. At the same time, employers and governments are attempting to manipulate labor struggles, betting on the role of yellow unions and compromised trade union leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our era it is obvious that the prerequisites for truly dignified working and social living conditions for all workers exist in abundance. The class-oriented trade union movement fights so that the huge productive capabilities are not utilized to increase the profits of capitalists and create unimaginable wealth for a few, but to ensure dignified living and working conditions for those who create and produce the wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organization and struggle is the only path that can overturn the existing realities of misery, exploitation, and social injustice. The weapon of workers everywhere is solidarity and internationalism.  The WFTU remains firmly committed to these principles.  It continues its 80-year path with the same vision that inspired its founding: for a world without wars and imperialist interventions, without exploitation and discrimination.  A world where work will be permanent, stable, regulated, and safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion of May Day 2025, the WFTU calls upon the class and militant trade unions around the world to take initiatives and organize this year\u2019s campaign and activities under the slogan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their profits or Our lives \u2013 Hope lies in peoples\u2019 struggle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

-against the imperialist wars and interventions,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

-for the satisfaction of the workers\u2019 contemporary needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let the WFTU flag proudly wave along with the flags of the militant trade unions in the uninterrupted class struggle for stable work with rights, social security, free public, and universal health and education, a dignified life. This will be the highest and proper celebration of the glorious 80-year course of struggles, sacrifices, and dignity of the international class-oriented trade union movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El movimiento sindical internacional de clase, los trabajadores y los sindicatos combativos de todo el mundo conmemoran con luchas el 139\u00ba aniversario de la lucha obrera de Chicago en 1886. La Federaci\u00f3n Sindical Mundial (FSM), la organizaci\u00f3n sindical internacional m\u00e1s hist\u00f3rica, que representa a m\u00e1s de 105 millones de trabajadores en los cinco continentes, env\u00eda un mensaje cordial y combativo a todos los trabajadores y campesinos a la gente sencilla del trabajo y del esfuerzo, con motivo del D\u00eda Internacional de los Trabajadores, que constituye un hito luminoso y perdurable de lucha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Este Primero de Mayo coincide con el 80\u00ba Aniversario de la FSM, que naci\u00f3 en las cenizas de la guerra m\u00e1s destructiva de la historia de la humanidad, en el aire revolucionario de la gran victoria antifascista de los pueblos con la Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica a la cabeza, y cumple ocho d\u00e9cadas de lucha ininterrumpida por los derechos de los trabajadores, por la justicia y el progreso social, contra todas las formas de discriminaci\u00f3n, contra las guerras e intervenciones imperialistas, contra la explotaci\u00f3n del hombre por el hombre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanto las consignas y demandas de los pioneros de Chicago en 1886 como las necesidades que llevaron inevitablemente a la fundaci\u00f3n de la FSM siguen siendo vigentes y necesarias hoy. La crisis del capitalismo se profundiza y se generaliza. Las desigualdades sociales se ampl\u00edan dram\u00e1ticamente. Las libertades democr\u00e1ticas y los derechos sindicales est\u00e1n bajo ataque en todo el mundo, y las guerras e intervenciones imperialistas est\u00e1n a la orden del d\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El genocidio del pueblo palestino en Gaza y Cisjordania, los bombardeos en L\u00edbano y otros pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n m\u00e1s amplia de Medio Oriente, con el apoyo y aliento de EE.UU., la UE y sus aliados, contin\u00faan, revelando en toda su magnitud la hipocres\u00eda, el cinismo y la naturaleza inhumana del imperialismo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al mismo tiempo, el gasto militar global aument\u00f3 a 2,46 billones de d\u00f3lares el a\u00f1o pasado, con grandes incrementos presupuestarios en pa\u00edses de Asia, Medio Oriente, el norte de \u00c1frica y Europa. Notablemente, hay ejemplos de pa\u00edses que casi duplican su gasto en defensa. Mientras tanto, el presidente de EE.UU., Trump, exige un gasto m\u00ednimo del 5% del PIB entre los miembros de la OTAN, y la Cumbre de la Comisi\u00f3n Europea decidi\u00f3 financiar 800 mil millones de euros para el rearme militar dentro del proyecto ReArm EUROPE<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El giro hacia una econom\u00eda de guerra es claramente una prioridad para los c\u00edrculos gobernantes del capitalismo, ya que incentiva la rentabilidad de los monopolios multinacionales y la expansi\u00f3n del poder geopol\u00edtico de los estados imperialistas desarrollados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estos nuevos aumentos masivos en el gasto militar, adem\u00e1s de ser una amenaza para la paz y la seguridad global, significan pol\u00edticas de austeridad a\u00fan m\u00e1s duras y una mayor desigualdad social. Los recursos que deber\u00edan destinarse a las familias, los trabajadores y el pueblo son recortados y desviados hacia el rearme, mientras que los derechos civiles y sociales son sometidos a tutela, porque en la preparaci\u00f3n para la guerra no se permiten opiniones disidentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La FSM y los sindicatos de clase condenan en\u00e9rgicamente los preparativos b\u00e9licos de la burgues\u00eda. Los estratos populares no tienen nada que esperar de una nueva guerra generalizada, excepto muerte, pobreza, destrucci\u00f3n, refugios y sufrimiento. Exigimos que se destinen recursos a las necesidades actuales de los trabajadores y los pueblos. Demandamos educaci\u00f3n y salud adecuadas, no armas. Exigimos condiciones dignas de trabajo y vida, no municiones y misiles. Demandamos inversi\u00f3n en cultura, deporte y recreaci\u00f3n, no en aviones de combate y buques de guerra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exigimos medidas contra la inflaci\u00f3n y el costo de vida que erosionan los est\u00e1ndares de vida. Nos oponemos a la privatizaci\u00f3n, la externalizaci\u00f3n y las formas flexibles de trabajo que intensifican la precariedad laboral y la explotaci\u00f3n, junto con el aumento de la edad de jubilaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los logros obreros y sociales est\u00e1n bajo constantes ataques y desaf\u00edos que socavan los derechos laborales, los convenios colectivos y las libertades democr\u00e1ticas. La seguridad en el trabajo sigue descuidada, causando lesiones y muertes diarias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pesar de los desaf\u00edos globales, los trabajadores no aceptan pasivamente la ofensiva antilaboral contra sus derechos y libertades. Millones se movilizan en todo el mundo por trabajo digno y la protecci\u00f3n de los derechos sindicales y sociales, con los miembros de la FSM firmemente al frente de estas luchas. La respuesta de los gobiernos burgueses a las justas demandas populares es el aumento de la represi\u00f3n estatal y el autoritarismo. Al mismo tiempo, los empleadores y gobiernos intentan manipular las luchas laborales, apostando por el papel de los sindicatos amarillos y l\u00edderes sindicales de conciliaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En nuestra \u00e9poca es evidente que existen los requisitos para condiciones de trabajo y vida social verdaderamente dignas para todos los trabajadores. El movimiento sindical de clase lucha para que las enormes capacidades productivas no se utilicen para aumentar las ganancias de los capitalistas y crear riqueza inimaginable para unos pocos, sino para garantizar condiciones dignas para quienes crean y producen esa riqueza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La organizaci\u00f3n y la lucha son el \u00fanico camino que puede revertir las realidades existentes de miseria, explotaci\u00f3n e injusticia social. El arma de los trabajadores en todas partes es la solidaridad y el internacionalismo. La FSM mantiene un firme compromiso con estos principios. Contin\u00faa su camino de 80 a\u00f1os con la misma visi\u00f3n que inspir\u00f3 su fundaci\u00f3n: por un mundo sin guerras ni intervenciones imperialistas, sin explotaci\u00f3n ni discriminaci\u00f3n. Un mundo donde el trabajo sea permanente, estable, regulado y seguro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Con motivo del Primero de Mayo de 2025, la FSM hace un llamado a los sindicatos de clase y combativos de todo el mundo a tomar iniciativas y organizar la campa\u00f1a y las actividades de este a\u00f1o bajo la consigna:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
